The Story
A City Takes the First Step
The City of Watonga purchased a two-bedroom, two-bath Zona Verde home as part of its effort to provide affordable housing in its community, making a local government one of Zona Verde's earliest adopters. The home was constructed in August 2023, and city officials cut the ribbon on September 15, 2023.
From September 2023, the home served as Zona Verde's model home, welcoming prospective buyers from rural communities and Native American tribes for walk-throughs. It also worked a second job: standing as a live durability test against Oklahoma's weather: summer heat, high winds, and winter storms. Exactly the conditions the system was engineered for.
In 2024, the model home became what it was always meant to be: someone's home. Its first resident moved in, and the demonstration that started as a city initiative now anchors Zona Verde's track record, the real-world application that current and future customers walk through before building communities of their own.
